last weekend i took some pictures of a lovely family here in town. they live in a cool loft near downtown, making me forget i was in richmond for a bit! this family's got style. was especially fun because their kids are about the same age as mine. not that that makes me at all an expert when it comes to four year olds and babies. just enough to know that you take it as it comes and let them lead the way...

birthdays stress me out. every year this happens. thankgiving, everyone gets sick, christmas shopping, a snow storm, travelling, and new years. i sigh with relief for surviving the insanity of december, and then realize i have two weeks to plan a birthday party. it's a bad scene. so yea. next year will be different.

but really? it's about impossible to ruin a birthday party for a four year old. sugar and kids. all you need. no secret recipe there! this year we headed to a local dance studio. i got her a hot pink leotard, a cute pair of tights, and put her hair in a bun for the first time. she and her friends danced off some steam, and we parents enjoyed the show. pretty stress free. oh and come fall, i've gotta sign up my girl for ballet lessons. cuz she's a natural. of course.

there are cat people, and there are dog people. and yea, there are some great cats out there - but doesn't it seem like great cats act like dogs?

lucky me to work at a dog friendly office. i'm pretty positive that pet portraiture isn't my strong suit, but was lots of fun to bring my cam to work and snap a few pics of my boss' pup who we've all grown quite fond of.

so i've been prowling the sites for months now waiting for the right time to pounce, and sure enough the time came, and now she's here. my new beautiful hunk of technology goodness. i know a lot of gals aren't so into gadgets, but i really can't imagine why. i even spent happy weeks researching the best external hard drive system - which is hardly as fun as a new camera - but bubble wrap and cords make me giddy regardless.

new year. time to do a little sprucing up! it's a resolution of mine to update my blog lots, and switch things up from time to time. nothin' worse than a stale website. so, a new look, some changes to the 'about' section and a new 'FAQ' page. changes to my gallery coming soon...

for me 2009 was a great year. yes, i know the rest of the world is thrilled to have it behind us. and yes, i kicked the year off waiting in line for unemployment. but once i got out of that line, i had more time with my family, a new business, a relaxed pregnancy, fun afternoons with friends, a fantastic new job, and a son! so despite our sad looking retirement plans - last year was among one of the best.

and i'm excited for 2010. my kids are both at such fun ages, i've got some great weddings on the horizon, we're doing some really exciting projects at work, i'm determined to take a family vacation and i'm buying new camera gear! (i know this makes me such a geek, but oh how i love my gadgets.)

slowly getting my act together over here. last year at this time i hadn't bought a single gift and christmas cards were out of the question. my only excuse was being pregnant and lazy. vowed this year would be different. can't say i'm totally on the ball given that i've still got plenty do to and the holidays are around the corner - but i've made a few strides, and it's 99% certain i'll manage to get cards out. headed to the park with some friends so i could hand my camera over and get a shot of us, but you know me - i quickly grabbed it back and had fun shooting everyone else.

im surrounded by babies. i've got one, my best friend's got one, my sister's got one...the babies are taking over! this little guy is just a month older than my man. neat to see what my kiddo will be up to in a few weeks. sitting up and just ready to grab whatever he can. so neat. and can't you just tell he's going to be such a character? can't wait to hear what he's up to in a year or so!

i remember not even wanting to sit down for fear of an unwanted wrinkle. although, despite my better efforts, my dress was far from pristine by the end of my wedding day. the hot july weather, and a few dances made sure of that. now it's full on dowdy as it's been sitting in my closet for not quite a decade. i don't even know why i still have it. it wasn't that schmancy, and really if my daughter wanted to wear it, i'd feel robbed of the experience of dress shopping with her. so i'd rather she didn't! oh, and i still haven't cleaned it. i probably shouldn't admit that. but there ya go.

kelli knew what to do with hers. wear it again damnit! this time, without the fear of dirt. she and her husband clay met me in manchester where we took some fun shots before heading across the river and taking a few more downtown. passers by gave them a few honks thinking it was there wedding day, and since it wasn't - we had lots of time to do what we wanted. lots of fun. kelli and clay were great sports. i wanna do it again

engagement pictures - canal walk and church hill :: richmond, virginia

another weekend, another really fun engagement shoot. i love this time of year - the weather was amazing. ashley was in a panic that it would rain, but i just had this gut feeling that we were going to end up with weather perfection, and sure enough - that's what we got. richmond has so many great spots to shoot in. we were gonna head over to pony pasture, but instead we headed to the canal walk downtown, and then up to church hill. both spots really suited them i think. they're just a fun easy going pair, and were really up for whatever. engagement shoots involve a good amount of PDA, which requires a certain amount of confidence. no sweat for ashley and ricky though who even had a pair of uber curious girls who became their giggling fan club, and popped into the occasional shot!

oh, and i have to tell you this couple is spoiled! their wedding planner yolanda is organized like you wouldn't believe. she even joined us for the shoot and helped me out with an extra hand! thank you yolanda, ashley and ricky for a great time!
