I have a thing for fall weddings, and it's all about the light. I think couples are starting to catch on too. Curious to see if October will soon become a more popular wedding month than June. I find my fall brides have a certain style too. It's hard to describe in words, but there's always a fun twist. Bridget and Steve had plenty. And they are that perfect combination of stylish and sweet. For a photographer, their wedding was a dream because every detail was stunning. I love Lewis Ginter. I've spent so many afternoons there with my kids watching them play in the fountains and enjoy the gardens. So it was especially nice to return and celebrate with Bridget and Steve. And their family and friends were so fun. Everyone couldn't help but smile all day, which I can't get enough of.

Engagement Pictures on Belle Isle:: Richmond, VA

I have a knack for always having a shoot on the hottest day of the year. Although, I don't know what's more crazy - shooting in temps that are over 100 degrees, or sitting here editing pictures in the middle of the hurricane, wondering if we're about to lose power! If you want to know how a mom photographer lives on the edge, there you go. Wild times here.

But I'm a trooper, and so were Shanita and Cliff. We decided to do a morning shoot to save ourselves a few degrees and hiked around Belle Isle to do their engagement session. Fun times. Their wedding is going to be fantastic. Their wedding planner Elizabeth is amazing, and I know she's going to do great things. It's going to be at the old John Marshall Hotel which is now being renovated. Very cool!

Nichole & Justin :: Hanover Arts and Activities Center :: Richmond Wedding

Generally speaking, it's hard for me to convert a photograph to black and white. I'm a full color kinda gal. Of course, I love the classic tone and subtle hue black and white conveys. It's just hard for me to let go of the richness of color. And if ever there was a wedding that made it almost impossible to create a black and white image, it was this one. Nichole and Justin have such fun taste. They created a day that was both festive and classic. The colors and details were perfect. Was my first time shooting at the Hanover Arts and Activities Center up in Ashland. I hope to go back again soon. Such a cute venue with so many lovely backdrops to make any photographer smile. Nichole and Justin are a fantastic couple with really fun family and friends. I'm sure they'll throw many great parties in the years ahead. Thanks for having me!

Wedding at The Jefferson Hotel :: Tiffani and Shawn :: Richmond, VA

You won't believe this, but this entire wedding was planned in two weeks. At The Jefferson Hotel no less! It wasn't supposed to be that way, and Tiffani and Shawn will have quite the story to share with their kids someday. But thanks to the support of incredible family and friends everything came together. And looked stunning to boot. Tiffany's mom had a vision for the room, and the team at the Jefferson made everything come to life. Oh, and did I mention the violinist that played for the couple with an electric blue violin? This guy was so amazing, it's shocking I was able to take my jaw off the floor and keep taking pictures. He didn't just play the violin. He PLAYED it. Words can't describe. Thank you, thank you, thank you Tiffani and Shawn for including me on your big day. I wish you both the very best!

Engagment session :: Downtown Richmond, VA

Last weekend I met up with Brigdet and Steve here in town for their engagement session - we went downtown for some pictures and then headed up to Church Hill. Two of my favorite spots. Was a really easy time as both of them are really fun, up for anything and are amazingly photogenic (why do I always luck out with such insanely attractive couples?!) They're getting married at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens later this year and I'm thrilled to be a part of it. I met her dad for coffee when we were finalizing all the details and learned all about Bridget's family and friends. I feel like I know everyone already! Makes it even more exciting as their wedding day approaches.

Proposal video! :: Richmond Engagement Session

So, not too long ago I posted about the great engagement session I had with Cory and Roslin. While they've been deciding what pictures to order for the holidays, my good friend Dean has been busy putting together the video. I've been so excited to share it.

Bracing myself for the holidays now. Had a really fantastic time with my family for Thanksgiving. Adding to the pile of family pictures I need to edit and go through. Eeps. A new years resolution for next year for sure!

maggie & alan's wedding :: the mill at fine creek :: richmond, va

october is my favorite month. the weather is perfect. there is so much going on. and it's my birthday month to boot. and i love it when the perfect couple, pick the perfect venue, on the perfect day to get married - and then ask me to be a part of it. i knew this wedding would be fantastic right away when maggie and her mom met me here in richmond to talk about their plans. they were so excited and just so in sync about how everything would come together. they have great taste that is both unique and classic. and it all came together so well.

every detail was so lovely. the flower girls do beautiful work. the colors and arrangements were stunning. and i can't say enough about the mill at fine creek. so close to richmond, and yet it feels so remote and tucked away. the team was great to work with, and it's the kind of venue that's a photographer's dream. perfect inside and out.

their families are gracious and funny. maggie and alan are thoughtful and just incredibly sincere. and everyone who was a part of it was as thankful as i was.

so thank you once again maggie and alan - one of my favorite bride and grooms! i wish you the very best!

proposal and engagement session :: richmond, va

about a month ago, cory called me up with a fantastic idea. you see, his girlfriend roslin, loves weddings. and people who love weddings (like myself) love to look at wedding pictures. so i think that's how she found me! and she showed my site to cory.

meanwhile, cory's been thinking about popping the question. and is thinking about the perfect way to do it. so his brilliant idea is to schedule a couples session with him and roslin - and propose - and have it all captured. so that's exactly what we did. as about as authentic an engagement session as you can get!

so we talked and talked about how they met, and where their first date was, and where we'd meet, and what they'd wear, and how he'd tell her about the session, and when the ring would arrive, and of course - how he'd finally propose - which he was just so excited to do.

then the day came, and oh my god this day was gorgeous. i mean, you all know how beautiful the weather has been this month? like - so perfect. and so we met in church hill, and well - the pictures tell the rest.

stay tuned though because my good friend, and fantastic videographer dean joined in on the fun. and i'll be sharing the video clip soon! so there's no way they can forget any of it. and so cool that they can share it with their kids someday.

new house, new baby, new pictures! :: richmond, va

always fun to do sessions with friends. mom was a former colleague of mine - a great one too. a smart gal that's totally got it goin' on. her family and mine share lots in common. two busy working parents, a daughter in preschool, and baby boys! i actually had the pleasure of shooting another fun session with this crew when she was pregnant! as if adjusting to the new babe wasn't enough excitement for one year - they also have new digs and have been enjoying settling in and taking advantage of all the new space. it's a beautiful home.

so now - that story about the melting wedding photographer. this is it. last weekend i drove up to pennsylvania to meet up with a dear friend of mine who is also a fantastic photographer, andrea hughes. she lives up in michigan - so if you live up there and are in need of a photographer, she's your girl! i don't get to see her too often, so when i realized i was free for this wedding near phili - i jumped at the opportunity to tag along.

she said "but wait - you know it's supposed to be 105 on saturday?..." so i made a pitstop at forever 21 to find an alternative to my usual all black photographer attire to bear the heat a bit more, and four hours later there i was.

amanda and pat make a great pair. his cool guy attitude melted away whenever he could spot her and amanda looked stunning! just such a funny sweet person. if anyone could deal with an outdoor wedding in the oven - it's her. she just exudes ease and good energy. and looked beautiful in 105 degree heat to boot. (you should have seen me. good lord. let's just say if any pictures of me made it up on facebook - i'd untag it in a hot second.)

what a fun time though. thank you andrea for bearing with my crazyness. and amanda and pat - i wish you the very best - and cooler days ahead!
